Support

PRENATAL - BIRTH - POSTPARTUM
Doulas are commonly just associated with labor and delivery. Over the course of the care of over 200 families, I have realized quickly the importance of informational, physical and emotional support for expectant and laboring families. This multifaceted support plays a vital role in a family's pregnancy, birth and postpartum story. My practice philosophy puts just as much focus on the prenatal and postpartum period as labor and birth. There is a lot of information out there, and sometimes its overwhelming.  I join with families, talk about what is normal and  abnormal of pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. We talk about your options, tools and resources for each stage and parents are empowered to make informed decisions during exciting transition in life.
My experience of birth is diverse. I have had the honor of attending births at most of our area hospitals, in homes with many of our lovely midwives and at our area's free standing birth centers.  This diversity has given me a great appreciation for a high quality model of care and unique understanding of the variations of birth. Each pregnancy, birth and postpartum period I have supported has been an opportunity to learn more about the variables of the childbearing year and how the tools and skills doctors, midwives, nurses and doulas can come together in their own perfect way.
I would love the opportunity to support you and you family in this chapter of life.

1 hour complementary consultation This consultation allows us to get to know each other a little better and helps me to understand what your hopes and needs are. I believe whole heartily that its not just about having any doula to support your pregnancy and birth, its about having the right doula.
Upon choosing to reserve my services, clients have access to me to answer any questions they may have via phone, text or email during business hours.
Access to extensive recourses, my professional referral base and educational materials.
2 prenatal visits. At prenatals we discuss your preferences for you birth and I teach a mini birth class. Birth can be unpredictable and the process of finding your preferences is more about learning about the options available to you as oppose to having a plan on how your birth will go.  All clients have the option to also attend the 1 day birth class that I co-teach.
At 37 weeks I go on call for clients and I am accessible 24/7 via phone and text. Which equals 840 hours on call for pregnancies carried to 42 weeks. When you go into labor, I provide virtual or telesupport until you feel you need continuous support. The majority of low risk clients choose to labor in the comfort of their home as long as safely possible. The combination of your instincts, communication and my years of experience can support family in timing their arrival to the hospital. If access is allowed, I provide support through 2 hours postpartum.
After delivery we schedule a postpartum visit. During this visit I make a nourishing postpartum meal, answer any questions you might have and we discuss your birth. I continue to provide support as needed via phone, text and email. Additional in person support is also available.

If you are considering hiring a doula for your pregnancy and birth, I highly recommend interviewing 3 doulas. It is very important to find the right doula for you and your family. Not sure where to find other doulas? No worries, I have that covered. We have two wonderful collectives with doulas that cover El Dorado County and the Greater Sacramento Area.  These collectives are also a great place to find other birth professionals like; midwives, lactation consultants, birth photographers, chiropractors, massage therapists and more.

"The experience of birth is vast.  It is a diverse tapestry woven by cultural customs, shaped in personal choices, affected by biological factors, marked by political circumstances.  Yet the nature of birth itself prevails in elegant design of simple complexity. "
