Let's be honest, labor is hard work.
You wouldn't run a marathon without eating or drinking, would you? No, because that would be insane. Well labor is a marathon of hard work, regardless of how long it might be. It's important to fuel and hydrate your body properly. If not, you and your baby may begin to show signs of it. Here are some nutritious and hydrating foods and drink for your labor.

This labor aide is seriously a hit with the laboring mamas I make it for. It also is what I make it for myself for births. Let's face it when midwives and doulas are at births, we don't always have the opportunity to feed and hydrate ourselves well. If we do, the better we can serve our lovely mamas.
Lemon Juice - rich source of vitamin c, carbs, fiber and easily digested sugars.
Raw honey or backstrap molasse - rich in minerals and easily digested sugars, which are great for energy.
Pink Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt - great source of electrolytes and minerals.

Fuel and hydrate your body well with these yummy snacks. Don't forget about your birth team too!
Watermelon and other melons - contain large amounts of electrolyte trace minerals and large amounts of water, like over 90% water.
Bone Broth - protein, minerals and hyaluronic acid.
Nuts - minerals, folate and fats
Bananas - hyaluronic acid, easily digested sugars, potassium, B vitamins and vitamin C
Avocado - fats
Perfect bars - protein and superfoods
Strawberries - vitamin C, fiber, antioxidant and large amount of water.
Cucumber - B vitamins, iron, folic acid, magnesium and lots of water.
Raw Honey - rich in minerals and easily digested sugars.

Eat, drink and birth merrily!

"The experience of birth is vast.  It is a diverse tapestry woven by cultural customs, shaped in personal choices, affected by biological factors, marked by political circumstances.  Yet the nature of birth itself prevails in elegant design of simple complexity. "
